Chinese wingsuiter Zhang to fly in China's famed Tianmen Cave
CHANGSHA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese wingsuiter Zhang Shupeng is to fly through Tianmen Cave this Sunday in Zhangjiajie, central China's Hunan Province.
On the day of the challenge, Zhang will ride a helicopter to an altitude of over 2,000 meters behind Tianmen Cave. At a position approximately 500 meters away from the cave's straight line, he will jump from the cabin wearing a wingsuit and fly through it at approximately 200 km/h.
The entire flight will take less than 20 seconds, with a parachute opening height of 150 meters.
Tianmen Cave is 131.5 meters high, 57 meters wide, and 60 meters deep, with an altitude of more than 1,300 meters, making it the world's highest natural mountain cave.
Before taking up wingsuit flying, Zhang was a member of China's national paragliding team and won international honours. He has flown on Tianmen Mountain more than 1,200 times to date.
Zhang stated that he adjusted his training structure accordingly for this challenge, increasing his training in high-speed, long-distance flights and rapid descent flying techniques. He also analyzed the feasibility of flying in different wind directions and speeds based on Tianmen Cave's aerial video data.
